Vincent Bach Mutes - A Visual History
Below are various Bach Mutes that were offered for sale through the years. Vincent Bach Corporation never produced trumpet or trombone by itself; it relied upon innovative suppliers to private label mutes to Vincent Bach Corp. and future Bach-branded entities. Here are the examples we have found in our research.
The Vincent Bach Master Mutes would be between 1922 and October 1928, based upon the factory address above.
Vincent Bach had these manufactured by Joseph Rapuano at 222 East 105th Street, New York City, NY. Rapuano built mutes and assembled French Besson “Fabrication” trumpets.
” The only perfect aluminum, satin finish mute that will not sharpen the pitch of your instrument. Corks are mounted on elastic steel springs to prevent them from falling out.
Diane and Robert D. Olson patented the plastic Bach mute in 1968. This mute was produced in black (Stradivarius) and white (Mercedes) models and was popular with orchestral players then. Early versions of these straight mutes are still in demand by collectors and players.
The Design Patent number for this molded trumpet & trombone mute is D210247. Robert D. (Dale) Olson was also known for designing the plastic valved Olds Pinto trumpet in the late 1960s and is a prolific researcher in all things brass instruments.
